Game Preview
The race for a playoff spot heats up when the NHL resumes after the Winter Olympics. It has been a reliable campaign to this point for the Buffalo Sabres, and they come into the restart sitting fourth in the Atlantic Division. The Sabres have gone 32-19-6 in the NHL this season, but they lost their previous two games before the mid-season break.
Lindy Ruff’s side will still feel as though they have an excellent chance of making the playoffs, but their best results have come at KeyBank Center.
On the road, the Sabres still have a winning record, but they have suffered eleven defeats in regulation time. Tage Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin are among their standout players, with the former recording a team-high 59 points so far this season.
The Devils will have the home ice advantage this week, but it is concerning that they sit second bottom in the Metropolitan Division. Only the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers have recorded fewer wins in the division so far this season.
New Jersey also bring poor form into this clash, having lost their last three, and suffering six regulation time defeats in their previous ten. Their form at the Prudential Center has also been mixed throughout the campaign, going 13-12-2. Nico Hischier has been a standout player for the team, scoring 19 goals and contributing 42 points.
Buffalo Sabres vs. New Jersey Devils Picks
The Devils have stuttered for form throughout the season, which makes them hard to support on Wednesday. Therefore, the Sabres should be good value to record a third win in four against their NHL rivals.
