Game Preview
Dan Muse would have been delighted with the response from his Pittsburgh Penguins team on night one in the NHL, as the head coach was able to make a winning start to the campaign against the New York Rangers.
The Penguins were excellent from start to finish, and never looked back after taking a first period advantage. They later added two goals into an open net in the final frame to add gloss to the success. Justin Brazeau was in excellent form for the team, as he netted twice. Blake Lizotte also scored.
The New York Islanders ended their pre-season with a 4-3 success against the Philadelphia Flyers last week. But, this looks like a more challenging assignment when they open their NHL campaign proper on Thursday.
Patrick Roy guided the Islanders to a 12th place finish in the Eastern Conference last term, but he was unable to lead them into the playoffs for the first time since 2021-22. Despite that, hopes are high ahead of the coming season that they have the quality to get back on track.
Islanders vs. Penguins Picks
The Penguins were excellent on opening night against the Rangers, with special credit given to their defensive stars. At the prices, a second straight success for the Penguins could be the most viable betting angle this week.
