One of the fiercest rivalries in the NHL is reignited on Wednesday evening, as the NY Rangers and NY Islanders collide. The Islanders will be the more confident team based on recent performances, winning five of their last ten to hold a positive overall record of 28-19-5.
At present, the Islanders sit third in the Metropolitan Division, and a win on Wednesday could send them into the top two. A big strength for the team this season has been their defensive record, allowing just 146 goals in their 52 games.
The Islanders were at their clinical best earlier this week, landing a thumping 4-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored twice in the landmark win.
It has been a contrasting season for the Rangers this season. They currently sit bottom of the Metropolitan Division, and they have a losing 22-25-6 overall record in 2025-26.
The Rangers have struggled to score goals throughout the campaign, recording just 143. Meanwhile, they have underperformed in their last ten, going 2-7-1. But, positives could have been taken from their latest outing, landing a 4-3 overtime win over the Boston Bruins.
