Game Preview
Guadalajara Chivas won the first game by being better offensively. Veljko Paunovic’s boys created twice as many goal chances as UNAM Pumas. They made 16 goal attempts, with eight shots at goal, one of which hit the target.
Midfielder Fernando Beltran scored the only goal, but that wasn’t the only good thing he did in that game. Beltran also performed his defensive duties at a top level, helping his team keep the opposition far away from their goal.
As a result, UNAM Pumas made only eight goal attempts, with only two of those being directed at Guadalajara’s net.
If they want to win on Sunday, Pumas will need to get way more creative this time. The bad news for their fans is that their key playmakers haven’t been in great shape lately.
Former Boca Juniors and Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio, for instance, hasn’t made an assist since September. It’s a similar story when it comes to Cesar Huerta, as well as many others. These guys will have to step up if they want to take UNAM Pumas to the semifinal.
