Game Preview
Pulsating World Cup qualification action is set for Prague on Thursday, as Czechia bid to make home advantage count when they host Ireland in the semi-finals.
Czechia finished second in the Group L standings, winning five of their eight fixtures and showing excellent attacking quality with 18 goals. Home form was crucial to their finishing position, winning three of their four.
Defensively, Czechia also showed their quality in home matches, allowing just 0.33 per 90, and keeping clean sheets in 67% of their fixtures.
Ireland’s place in the playoffs looked unlikely at the half way stage, but the nation showed excellent character to battle to their second-place finish after stunning wins over Portugal and Hungary in November.
Troy Parrott was the hero for the Irish, scoring all five of their goals in those pivotal victories. But, away form continues to be an issue for the Irish, as they have won just once in their last four on the road, failing to score in two of their fixtures.
Czechia vs. Ireland Picks
Ireland will have huge confidence after back-to-back wins against Portugal and Hungary. But, Czechia’s physicality and experience in the playoffs could prove crucial in Prague.
