Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment as the new USA coach is looming, but the national side return to action this week still under the interim care of Mikey Varas. It has been a disappointing period for the USA, as they will be looking to bounce back to form this week after a poor campaign at the Copa America over the summer.
The USA exited the South American tournament in the group stage after losing two of their three group stage matches. Therefore, wins have come in short supply this calendar year for the USA, as they have landed just three wins in their last eight internationals. They have also won just once in their last five since winning the Nations League.

Canada are also at the start of a new era, and the initial signs are positive following Jesse Marsch’s first tournament in control of the side over the summer. The nation excelled at the Copa America earlier in the summer, reaching the semi-final stage before losing against Argentina. However, they couldn’t secure third place after losing to Uruguay on penalties in the playoff.
But, it could be worth mentioning that wins were in short supply for Canada throughout the Copa America after winning just once in normal time. However, it’s hard to argue against the belief that Canada have already improved under Marsch, as they have played out a draw against France and held their own on two occasions against Argentina.
