Next Man United Manager Odds & Pick
Ruben Amorim’s ill-fated tenure at Man United was brought to an end on January 5, with the Red Devils languishing in sixth place in the Premier League standings. United sit just three points off the Champions League positions, but a drop off in performance levels, and a reported breakdown in relations between the coach and the hierarchy, effectively meant that the best solution for all involved was a change. Man United Searching For New Manager
Amorim was only appointed United manager last year, replacing Erik ten Hag. However, the Portuguese coach led United to a disappointing 15th-place finish in 2024-25, and his team was beaten in the Europa League final by Tottenham.
Old Trafford bosses always indicated that they were prepared to give Amorim time to make his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation work, but reports last week suggested that the relationship between the parties had broken down.
The announcement of his sacking came less than 24 hours after a 1-1 draw at Leeds United, and Darren Fletcher is set to take interim control ahead of a permanent appointment being made.
Enzo Maresca is currently the red-hot favorite to take the job, just a week after he was fired from Chelsea. Maresca led the Blues to Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup glory last term.
Oliver Glasner is a standout contender, despite playing the same system that ultimately led to Amorim’s demise. The Crystal Palace head coach is out of contract in the summer, and terms are yet to be agreed upon surrounding an extension.
Former United assistant Kieran McKenna was linked with the job 12 months ago, and could be an interesting appointment. Other big names on the shortlist include former Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez, current U.S. head coach Mauricio Pochettino, and Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola.
Next Man United Manager Pick
A permanent appointment could be made following United’s game against Burnley on Wednesday. Gareth Southgate has long been linked with the United job since leaving his role as England boss.
His ability to build morale within a squad could make him a popular selection, and he may be one who appeals to the Red Devils hierarchy.
