Match Preview

Chelsea’s struggles from the 2022-23 season have continued in the Premier League this term, as the Blues have won just once across their opening five matches this term. Mauricio Pochettino is yet to see the best from his side, who were held in their most recent fixture by Bournemouth.

The Blues have picked up the joint fewest wins and scored the fewest average goals per game of all sides that competed in the Premier League last season and this term. Furthermore, they have won just two of their last 13 Premier League fixtures at Stamford Bridge, with their only wins coming against Leeds United and Luton Town.

Aston Villa will be targeting another European finish this term, and there is reason to suggest that they are the value play this weekend. Unai Emery’s side has been one of the most entertaining to watch in the Premier League this term, as their matches have seen 21 goals scored, which is the second-most in the division behind Brighton.

Interestingly, Villa have scored at least three goals in the three victories that they have recorded, but they have also conceded at least three times in both the defeats that they have suffered. Villa landed a 2-0 win at Chelsea last season, and they could win back-to-back matches at Stamford Bridge for the first time since October 1993.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa Prediction

I can’t believe Villa’s price in the betting this weekend. They come into this fixture in excellent recent form, and Chelsea have lost six times at Stamford Bridge this calendar year.
