World Cup Picks: Which Teams Will Reach The Semi-Finals?

Ecuador (+1400)

One of our dark horse selections could be a good value selection to reach the World Cup semi-finals this year. Defensive strength will be key as the tournament progresses, and few have been as effective over the last 18 months than Ecuador.

The South American nation upset the odds to beat Uruguay and Argentina in qualifying, and they could be primed to dump Germany out in the group stage for the third straight edition.

Topping Group E will be key to their chances, but a potential clash with the winners of Group I awaits in the round of 16. If overcoming that challenge, a potential quarterfinal against the victors from Group F will be their opponents in the quarterfinals.

Spain (+125)

Spain are one of the heavy favorites to win the World Cup this summer, and it is extremely challenging to overlook their chances.

The European champions have the strength in major tournaments to go deep, and their chances are only aided by having a more straightforward passage through the tournament after topping Group H. The runners-up in Group J and the runners-up from ether Groups K or L await in the first two knockout rounds.

An eye-catching clash could come in the quarterfinals, as a potential showdown with the USA could have the power to stop the entire nation. We expect Spain to reach the semi-finals and book their spot in the final with a win against Ecuador.

England (+160)

A run to the semi-finals is the bare minimum that will be expected of Thomas Tuchel’s England after reaching the last two EUROs finals.

The Three Lions should top Group L with narrow wins against Croatia and Ghana, before a third-placed team awaits in the round of 32. The next two rounds will likely shape England’s morale, with a clash against Mexico in Mexico City in the round of 16, before a potential heavyweight showdown with Mexico in the quarterfinals.

If overcoming those challenges, the feel-good mood could carry a hugely talented Three Lions into a first World Cup final since 1966.

Portugal (+250)

Could this be the summer when Cristiano Ronaldo finally gets his hands on the one prize that has evaded him?

Portugal’s strength in depth certainly gives them every chance of going deep in the competition, and they will be widely expected to top Group K without dropping a single point. Straightforward assignments could await in the first two knockout rounds, before a mouth-watering showdown with Lionel Messi’s Argentina could await in the quarterfinals.

A showdown against England in the semi-finals would then be unmissable, but we have already flagged up the chances of Portugal winning the World Cup, in what could be a rematch of last summer’s Nations League final.
