Game Preview

Harold Kreis’ Germany will be heavily favored to keep their hopes of a Winter Olympics gold on track on Tuesday when they face France in the playoff round. The European nation were silver medallists at the 2018 Games, and they recorded one win in three games in Group C.

However, Germany will need to get their performance levels back on track this week after losing 5-1 against the USA on MD3. Germany’s only win to this point was a shock success on opening night against Denmark.

That victory was followed by an equally shocking loss against Latvia on Feb 14. Leon Draisaitl is the team’s main star, having scored 13 goals in 42 senior appearances for his nation.

It has been a poor showing by France in the Winter Olympics. However, this year’s showing is likely to gain experience ahead of hosting the Games in four years time. The French have lost all three of their games, conceding a staggering 20 goals in defeats against Switzerland, Czechia, and Canada.

Their latest loss against Canada would have damaged team morale, eventually losing 10-2. The nation’s main star is Alexandre Texier of the Montreal Canadiens. The 26-year-old has recorded 16 assists in 38 international appearances.

Germany vs. France Picks

This should be a straightforward assignment for Germany. The nation has shown flashes of their best offensive form to this point, and while they will likely come up short in their pursuit of a medal, they will at least reach the quarterfinal stage.
