Game Preview

We flagged up Switzerland as a potential medal hope before the start of the Winter Olympics, and we could still foresee them battling for bronze.

The Swiss are the third-ranked team in the world, and they showed some solid performances in Group A, beating France with ease before edging past Czechia in a thriller in overtime on Sunday.

Their only defeat came against Canada, highlighting their limitations at the highest level after conceding five times against the current favorites for gold.

Nico Hischier will be one of the team’s players to watch, with the New Jersey Devils captain having accumulated 40 points in 42 games for the Swiss.

Italy have been one of the weakest teams in the competition, having lost all three of their games in Group B. The Italians will take confidence from some of their performances, which included pushing Slovakia to their limit on MD2.

However, the team appeared fatigued in their final group-stage game on Saturday, losing 11-0 to Finland. A much better defensive performance will be required to threaten the upset in the playoff round on Tuesday.

Switzerland vs. Italy Picks

Italy have shown their limitations on the global stage in the group round. Therefore, we fully expect Switzerland to ease through to the next stage, setting up a fascinating showdown with Finland in the process.
