Game Preview

History is being made on the Parisian red these days. Matteo Arnaldi has already spent 18 hours playing at one Roland Garros, and that’s what nobody has done in the history of the Open Era. He earned some rest against Berettini, who had to withdraw due to a leg injury.

After beating Greikspoor 3-1, the Italian was better than Tsitsipas, 3-1, before having two five-set thrillers, one against Collignon and the other against Frances Tiafoe. In these matchups, Arnaldi showed incredible baseline defense and the ability to adjust to the rival’s changes, which is why he eventually survived.

Flavio Cobolli, meanwhile, is playing the absolute tennis of his life. His victory over Auger-Aliassime was a masterclass, though we have to say that he has some help from outside factors. Cobolli was down a set, but as soon as the roof closed over Chatrier, he began playing much better, sweeping the Canadian.

Unlike his countryman, Arnaldi, Cobolli is a heavy hitter and likes to play flamboyantplay flamboyant tennis. In many aspects of the game, he tries to copy Rafael Nadal (although that’s not quite possible), and even has the same rituals as the famous Spaniard.

Arnaldi vs. Cobolli Head to Head

These guys met five times, and the result is 3-2 for Arnaldi. However, the previous clash was here, at the French Open last year, when Cobolli won 3-1.

Arnaldi vs. Cobolli Predictions

Arnaldi needed this rest, and even though he got it, we don’t believe that he can beat Cobolli. Why? First of all, he spent 18 hours on the court. He plays defense well, but that approach won’t work against Cobolli, who likes to be the one who dictates the tempo. The way he dismantled Felix was impressive, and that particular performance forces us to bet on his win.
