Game Preview
Ben Shelton had a tough path to the quarterfinals. In the fourth-round match, he battled Gael Monfils, who eventually retired, with the result being 1-2 for Shelton. Interestingly, all three sets went to a tiebreak.
Previously, Shelton was better than Nakashima in the opening stage, Carreno-Busta and Lorenzo Musetti. All the events apart from the one against Nakashima saw him win 3-1.
Sonego opened his quest against the three-time Grand Slam champion, Stan Wawrinka. It was 3-1 for the Italian, who had to go through a five-set hell to beat young Fonseca from Brazil. Marozsan was his victim in the third round, 3-1.
The fourth round brought Learner Tien, who miraculously eliminated Daniil Medvedev. However, Sonego didn’t underestimate the American player. He was more than sharp, winning 3-1 and justifying his favorite status stamped by the bookmakers.
