Match Preview
Sinner smashed Alex De Minaur in just one hour and fifty minutes, which is impressive. We haven’t expected to see the Italian like this, particularly following his controversial event against Holger Rune, in which he struggled heavily. To be honest, the officials followed the rules strictly by the book, so things wouldn’t have been that easy for the world No.1.
But to get back to his performance against De Minaur. Sinner won in straight sets, allowing only seven games to the Aussie. He would win 84% on his first serve and convert six breakpoints. Pretty remarkable.
Shelton is in his first Grand Slam semifinals. The 21st seed in Australia bested Lorenzo Songeo 3-1 in sets, overcoming a rough challenge. But this is one of the best moments of his life, and we are pretty sure that the young American comes into the semis fired up and without too many thoughts about the previous events.
It’s interesting that Shelton made fewer unforced errors (33) than Sonego (55). He also won a very high percentage of points on the net (78%).
Jannik Sinner vs. Ben Shelton Head-to-Head
After five meetings, Sinner’s record is 4-1. Sinner lost only the first matchup against Sinner and then went on to win four in a row. In all of them, the Italian didn’t lose a single set.
Jannik Sinner vs. Ben Shelton Prediction
Shelton is a good guy, and he will definitely have the fans on his side in this one. Unlike Sinner, he is an underdog and hasn’t had any doping scandals in the past, which is why the crowd at the Rod Laver Arena will definitely root for him. However, his current level of play is beneath Sinner’s, and we predict the No.1’s victory here by at least a two-set margin.
