How Does The Laver Cup Work?
The Laver Cup is like the tennis equivalent to the Ryder Cup in golf. Six players from Europe and the rest of the world will make up the two teams, with each guided by a tennis legend. Three of the players from each team will be selected based on ATP rankings points, with the remaining selected by the captains.
A total of 12 matches are played across the three days, consisting of nine singles and three doubles. Each match victory on day one is worth a point, with two points and three points awarded on days two and three, respectively. In the unlikely event of a tie, a deciding match is played on day three.
Who Is Playing in the 2026 Laver Cup?
The teams for the 2026 Laver Cup were officially announced before the U.S. Open. Yannick Noah, with Tim Henman serving as the vice-captain, will captain team Europe. A strong European outfit will be led by Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz, with Flavio Cobolli, Rafael Jodar, Jakub Mensik, and Casper Ruud rounding out the team.
The World Team will be captained by Andre Agassi, with Pat Rafter taking his place as the vice-captain. Ben Shelton had been confirmed to play, but he withdrew in late September, being subsequently replaced by Brandon Nakashima. Alex De Minaur, Taylor Fritz, and Learner Tien will all compete for Team World. Alexander Bublik and Francisco Cerundolo round off the team.

Neither team has dominated the Laver Cup throughout history, but there is a sense that the European squad boasts better depth this year. Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz are the two best players in action, while the European team consists of five players ranked inside the world’s top 15.
Meanwhile, the World Team only has two players ranked in the top ten. Therefore, we expect Team Europe to regain the Laver Cup at The O2 Arena this year.
