Davidovich Fokina has already won one Asian Tour title. Lifting the title in Chengdu showed his excellent form, and although he lost immediately in the first round in Tokyo, the Spaniard bounced back quickly. One by one, he eliminated Wu, Halys, Bublik, De Minaur, and eventually Alexander Zverev.
After 2 hours and 5 minutes, the Spaniard won 2-1, getting back from the deficit: 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. Fokina was excellent on the first serve, hitting 82% and winning 85% of points. Surprisingly, he outpointed Zverev in winners, 36-28, meaning he dictated the tempo.
Young Jodar is the youngest player to reach the Shanghai finals. He is only 20 years and 29 days old and looks pretty good right now. After mixed results earlier in the season, including a turbulent American tour and an early loss in Tokyo, Jodar surprised everyone in China.
Check this out, Jodar eliminated Daniil Medvedev 2-0 in the semis 6-3, 6-4, while earlier, he won four in a row after three sets. His rivals were Tirante, Lehecka, Van de Zandschulp, and Ruud. Very respectable names.
