Match Preview
Since the grass-court season started, Brandon Nakashima has been delivering solid performances. He would win two matches in Stuttgart before losing to Zverev, then had the same record at Queens, where he was eliminated by Jack Draper. He is now on a back-to-back winning streak here at Wimbledon too.
After beating Bu in the first round, 3-1, he was better than his countryman, Reilly Opelka, also 3-1. Nakashim needed two and a half hours to beat No. 70 in the ATP rankings. Nakashima didn’t allow a single break against Opelka, while on the other hand, he had four successful breaks of his own.
Sonego’s recent results are mixed, and he isn’t playing particularly great tennis. He is 2-3 on the grass since the season started, without Wimbledon, where he has two triumphs in a row.
The first was against the Portuguese player, Jaime Faria, 3-0, and after that, he beat Nikoloz Basilashvili 3-1. Sonego had 11 aces without a double fault, yet he managed to hit only 66% of his first serve. The good thing is that he had converted 6 of his 12 break point chances.
Nakashima vs. Sonego Head to Head
The two met in Hong Kong on December 30, 2024, with Sonego winning 2-0.
Nakashima vs. Sonego Predictions
The American player appears to be better than the Italian, and overall, he was tested more against stronger players. Sure, Sonego can explode and win this one, but our money here is still on Brandon Nakashima.
