Game Preview
The fans don’t like Sinner too much due to his doping scandal, but after yesterday, they won’t like him even more. One of the bad guys in today’s tennis was down 0-2 when Grigor Dimitrov picked up an injury and withdrew from the match.
With 58% of the first serves and the fact that he only won 16% of Dimitrov’s first serves, it couldn’t be different. He also had just 19 winners, compared to 36 of the Bulgarian player.
Ben Shelton dropped his first serve in Wimbledon yesterday against Lorenzo Sonego. It was 3-1 for the American who wiped out all of his earlier rivals in straight sets. His previous victims were Bolt, Hijikata, and Fucsovics.
Despite what many believe, serve didn’t play too great of a role in Shelton’s game. He had only 8 aces and 60% of the first serve, yet he managed to win. But he had 47 winners and 41 unforced errors.
Sinner vs. Shelton Head to Head
Jannik Sinner won the last five matches against Shelton, who won only their first meeting. The overall H2H result is 5-1 in favor of the Italian. The most recent clash was the Australian Open this year, when Sinner triumphed 3-0.
