Match Preview
Jannik Sinner’s “act” regarding his “problems with the elbow” didn’t fool anyone, and he successfully beat Ben Shelton in the Wimbledon quarterfinals. It was 3-0 for the Italian who, to be honest, didn’t have such an easy time against the American.
He had 89% of points won on first serve, not allowing Shelton to have the slightest chance of breaking him. Even when the American managed to reach that situation, which was twice, Sinner stopped him. On the other side, Jannik was 3-for-5 when it came to breaking Shelton’s serve.
Djokovic again lost the first set, but rallied back to win the match. Though we need to say that he served for the first set, yet lost that game and eventually lost in a tiebreak. Djokovic faced two break points, allowing both, but on the other hand, he converted 6 of his 12 chances.
Novak’s war with the crowd isn’t as intense as before, but it’s obvious. In the moments when everyone believed the Serb was falling apart, the fans cheered for Cobolli, which gave Djokovic a much-needed boost. It will be interesting to see who gets the support in this one, the guy who was caught using doping and “faked” his injury two days ago, or one of Wimbledon’s favorite “villains.”
Sinner vs. Djokovic Head to Head
Sinner has 5 straight wins over Novak right now, and he leads 6-5 in head-to-head contests.
Sinner vs. Djokovic Predictions
Don’t be fooled by talks about Sinner’s elbow. That’s his escape plan and distraction, as we saw all that there’s nothing wrong with the Italian. That’s why he’s the favorite here. But Djokovic won’t go down that easily, be sure. The line for the Over/Under is 39.5 games, which, in our opinion, is Over.
