When Is The 2028 US Presidential Election?

The 2028 US Presidential Election will be held on November 7, 2028. U.S. citizens will vote on the next President and Vice President, who will sit in office for a term of four years.

What Happened in 2024 US Presidential Election?

The Joe Biden administration did enormous damage to the national confidence in the Democratic party, leading to the Republican party, led by Donald Trump Sr, winning a government trifecta.

Trump, who had previously lost the 2020 election, beat Kamala Harris, who replaced Biden as the Democratic leader. Several hot topics led to the dominant win for Trump’s party, including the migrant crisis on the U.S.-Mexico border and a post-pandemic surge in inflation.

Will Trump Run Again in 2028?

Based on the 22nd Amendment to the United States Constitution, Trump is ineligible to run for a third term in office. However, the sitting president has questioned this, with Trump stating that he would ‘love to do it’.

In order to run, Trump will need to have the amendment repealed, requiring a two-thirds majority in the House of Representatives and Senate, something that would be extremely unlikely to pass.

Who Will Run For US Election in 2028?

Republican Party Nominees

With Trump ineligible, three contenders have expressed an interest in running for the U.S. presidency. The current Vice President JD Vance expressed his interest in running in early 2026, while Marco Rubio has also been noted.

However, Rubio has admitted that he is unlikely to run should Vance enter. Rand Paul has already put his name forward to run, having previously challenged in 2016. The U.S. Senator for Kentucky has also revealed that he would not back Vance in his presidential bid.

Media personality Tucker Carlson is a reported candidate, sharing his political beliefs with his 22-million-strong viewing audience across YouTube and X.

Democratic Party Nominees

Turning public interest back in their favor will be the big challenge for the Democratic Party in the 2028 Election, following a landslide defeat in 2024.

As many as nine candidates have already put their names in the hat, including former Vice President Kamala Harris, and Governors of Hawaii and California, Josh Green and Gavin Newsom, respectively.

One of the shorter-priced favorites for the election has yet to declare, as Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York is a preferred choice for many. The 36-year-old would reportedly tick plenty of important demographics, ranking high among the younger demographic.
