The reigning WBA lightweight champion will be back in the ring in August, as Gervonta Davis defends his gold against Lamont Roach. It will be the second meeting between the stars this calendar year after the fight bout resulted in a hugely controversial draw.
The controversy stems from Davis’s drop to a knee in the ninth round, which Roach believed should have been counted as a knockdown. The aftermath also made headlines, with Davis believing that his hair product was to blame for his lacklustre display. However, in August, the American will have no such excuses.

The draw in March means that Davis retains his unbeaten record, but the draw is his only blemish. Davis is still regarded as one of the greatest boxers in the world, with 28 of his 30 wins being recorded inside the distance. In fact, the first meeting between the boxers was the first time that the American had been taken the full 12 rounds since December 2021.
Roach will be a huge outsider in the betting for the rematch, despite stinging the champion throughout the first bout. The American still deserves huge respect, as a former WBA super featherweight champion, and he has recorded victories in 25 of his 28 professional bouts. His only loss was inflicted back in 2019 against Jamel Herring.
