Event Preview

The F1 action moves back to Europe this weekend, as the Red Bull Ring hosts the Austrian Grand Prix. This weekend’s race will cover a total distance of 306.452 km, and that will be made up by 71 laps of the 4.318 km track. Max Verstappen claimed pole position in the race last year, but he finished outside of the top three spots.

George Russell won the race in 2024, and the British driver will be in great confidence following his excellent success in Montreal at the Canadian Grand Prix. Mercedes look to be an emerging force in the battle for regular wins, as the team also achieved a podium finish with Kimi Antonelli gaining a first top-three position in his rookie season.

McLaren will have the most questions to answer this weekend, as Oscar Piastri could only finish fourth in Canada after making contact with teammate Lando Norris. The collision saw Norris retire from the race, meaning that the Australian was able to extend his championship advantage.

Max Verstappen finished second in Canada, and his championship prospects are hard to rule out based on his consistency. However, Red Bull’s race pace is a major concern, and their constructors’ hopes look to be fading following the performances of Yuki Tsunoda.

Ferrari also appear to be fading in their bid, as they look to lack the race pace to compete. That was evident in Canada once again, as Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc could only finish sixth and fifth, respectively.

Austrian Grand Prix Picks

McLaren will have questions to answer this weekend, but Piastri’s consistency ensures that he remains the standout driver in terms of a race win. Therefore, we could see the Australian taking victory to extend his advantage at the top of the Drivers’ Championship.
