Event Preview
The 2024 edition of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix will be staged on September 15, as the field will complete a total distance of 306.049km at the Baku City Circuit. This race has been staged since 2016, with the drivers completing 51 laps of the testing street circuit. A total of 20 corners will be taken by the drivers this week, with two DRS Detection Zones available for overtaking.
Sergio Perez is a two-time winner of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, which includes a victory in the race last year. However, the Mexican has been well below the standard required at Red Bull this year, which has led to questions surrounding his long-term future with the team. Due to his results, Red Bullâs advantage at the top of the Constructorsâ standings stands at just eight points over McLaren.

Despite being in the mix for the title, McLaren have come under fire for their team orders in recent weeks, as it could be argued that they are limiting the chances of Lando Norris to close the gap on Max Verstappen due to their allowance to allow Norris and Oscar Piastri to battle on track. The latest race saw the Aussie finish second, while the Brit had to settle for third.
Another solid weekend for Ferrari is likely in Baku, and they could also have their sights set on a battle for the Constructorsâ title. Charles Leclerc landed a first win since Monaco at Monza, while Carlos Sainz did an excellent job at backing up the pack before taking fourth. Mercedes will be hoping for better, as Lewis Hamilton and George Russell made little impression as they finished in respective positions of fifth and seventh.
