Event Preview

After a seven-day break, the F1 action resumes in Europe this weekend, as the Hungaroring hosts the Hungarian Grand Prix. The track first hosted a Grand Prix in 1986, and it consists of 14 corners, with one DRS detection zone available for overtaking. Lewis Hamilton holds the record number of wins in the race with eight, while McLaren is the most successful team with eleven victories.

It was business as usual for Red Bull and Max Verstappen in the British Grand Prix last time out, as the Dutchman cruised to victory to land a sixth straight victory. It looks unavoidable to suggest that the Dutchman looks on course to win a third straight world championship this year, and a seventh straight win looks challenging to overlook this weekend.

However, it is worth mentioning that teams appear to be closing the gap on Red Bull. The most notable of those is McLaren, who have looked transformed following upgrades after the Austrian Grand Prix. Lando Norris held off Lewis Hamilton to equal his best race result at Silverstone, as he landed second. Further progress could be evident this weekend, as the McLaren boasts superior speed compared to both the Ferrari and Aston Martin.

Mercedes has also been competitive in recent rounds, with Hamilton finishing on the podium in three of the last four races. The fact that DRS is unlikely to play a factor this weekend will bring them into contention, and we could see at least one Mercedes on the podium if they are able to enjoy a solid qualifying on Saturday.

Hungarian Grand Prix Prediction

Verstappen looks a solid chance to land victory this weekend, while Hamilton could be primed to take yet another second place. We expect further evidence of the McLaren progression, but that could see Oscar Piastri enjoying a first podium finish in F1.
