Event Preview
The fifth and final major on the LPGA Tour for 2025 will be set in Wales this weekend, as the AIG Women’s Open takes center stage. Lydia Ko arrives at Royal Porthcawl as the defending champion after finishing two shots clear of the field at St Andrews in 2024.
This weekend’s Open will be the 49th edition of the tournament, and it will be competed across a total yardage of 6,748 yards. The par 72 event will see a total field of 144 players, with the prize fund standing at a huge $9.5 million.
Lottie Woad should be among the most confident players in the field this weekend after scoring a stunning success in the Women’s Scottish Open last weekend. The English star finished 21-under, beating closest challenger Kim Hyo Joo by three shots.

Jeeno Thitkul sits as the second choice in the betting at this stage, but the Thai player hasn’t been seen on the course since losing in a playoff at the Evian Championship last month. Thitkul’s best performance at the Open came back in 2022 when finishing in a share of seventh.
Lydia Ko is consistently a hard player to overlook when it comes to the majors on the LPGA Tour. The 28-year-old is a three-time champion at the highest level, and was a standout success last year. To this point, she has finished in the top ten in three of her appearances at The Open.
Nelly Korda also holds leading claims this weekend. The American is a two-time major winner, and was a strong-finishing runner-up in the Open 12 months ago. Her recent form looks strong on paper after claiming fifth at the Scottish Open last weekend.
AIG Women’s Open Picks
There could be value in taking a chance on Charley Hull this weekend. The English player finished five-under at the Scottish Open last time out to take a share of 21st, and she has been consistent in the majors throughout the season. Hull has made the cut in the last three editions of the British Open, notably taking second in 2023.
