Event Preview

The excitement ahead of the final major of the season increases this weekend, as the final event to be staged in the U.S. before The Open is held at TPC Deere Run. The John Deere Classic was first staged in 1971, and it will see the field cover a total distance of 7,257 yards.

This weekend’s par 71 stroke play event also offers a sizable purse of $8 million. Last year’s champion, Davis Thompson, holds the aggregate and par record at TPC Deere Run.

Ben Griffin will be a solid favorite this weekend. The American has been in excellent recent form, and he will be making his 23rd start this calendar year. Two wins on the PGA Tour to this point means that he sits sixth in the FedEx Cup Standings. Furthermore, he has taken six consecutive top-15 finishes on the Tour.

J.T. Poston is one of the most competitively priced selections this weekend after finishing in the top five in each of his last two appearances at TPC Deere Run. That includes a victory in this very event back in 2022.

Jake Knapp’s consistent approach play was finally rewarded last time out after taking a share of fourth at the Rocket Classic. Denny McCarthy is another worth considering after finishing in the top ten in each of the last three editions of the John Deere Classic.

John Deere Classic Picks

Kevin Yu looks like the value play based on the odds available this weekend. The star bypassed last weekend’s event and will be well-rested after a T25 finish at last month’s Travelers Championship.

He has been very consistent on the Tour, finishing in the top five in each of his last four appearances, and he makes plenty of appeal this weekend.
