Event Preview

A final opportunity to build momentum ahead of the PGA Championship arrives this weekend, as the Truist Championship will be staged. Typically, this event is held at Quali Hollow, but due to the course playing host to the second major of the season, this weekend’s event will instead be hosted at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.

The course is one of the oldest country clubs in the United States, as it was founded back in 1854. This weekend, the field will compete on the Wissahickon course, which covers a total distance of 7,119 yards. The par 70 course has previously hosted competitive events such as the Philadelphia Open.

Rory McIlroy is undeniably the correct favorite for the event this weekend, as he looks to build on his Masters success last month. The star has an excellent record in this event, as he has won the Truist Championship on four previous occasions. That includes an excellent five-shot win in 2024.

Xander Schauffele also deserves huge respect ahead of the event this weekend, as he comes alive at the competition after finishing as the runner-up in each of the last two editions.

Collin Morikawa is also in consistent form on the PGA Tour this season, and he looks set to be a major player at the PGA Championship next weekend. However, he will need to get back on track after finishing in a tie for 54th at the recent RBC Heritage.

Truist Championship Picks

It could be worth taking a chance on Patrick Cantlay this weekend. The American finished in a tie for 13th at the RBC Heritage last month and has also achieved fine finishes at The Players and the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
