Event Preview
A final opportunity to build momentum ahead of the first major of the season is set for San Antonio this weekend, as the Texas Open will see a talented field compete across 7,435 yards. A purse of $9.8 million is up for grabs, and Brian Harman is the defending champion.
Collin Morikawa will make his return to the PGA Tour this weekend after being out of action since picking up a back injury at The Players Championship. The American remains a likely contender at a course that will suit his ball-striking and excellent approach play ability.
Tommy Fleetwood is quietly going under the radar in the build-up to this year’s Masters, but he has still finished in the top ten on all but one of his last four appearances. Fleetwood also has previous form in the book at TPC San Antonio after finishing T7 a couple of years ago.
I am already keen on Ludvig Aberg for The Masters, meaning I am hoping for a strong showing from the Swede this weekend. Aberg has finished in the top five on his last two starts, and he brings strong momentum into an event that he finished T14 at in 2024.
Si Woo Kim’s eye-catching form shouldn’t be dismissed. The South Korean has been very consistent since the playoffs last season, and he currently sits second in fairways hit on the PGA Tour. He has finished in the top 25 on four occasions at the Texas Open, with his career-best showing coming when T4 in 2019.
Texas Open Picks
Robert MacIntyre is constantly a player who is overlooked on the PGA Tour, but he will be well-rested after taking fourth at The Players. Has performed well at TPC San Antonio in the past, and the Scot will thrive in all likely testing conditions this weekend.
