Event Preview
The opening major of the season will be played at Augusta National Golf Club, which is a par 72 course. A field of 88 players will compete across a total distance of 7,510 yards. The 87th edition of The Masters will see a number of previous champions among the leading contenders, including Scottie Scheffler.
The American won by three shots last year, with Rory McIlroy concluding the event in second. However, trends highlight that defending champions have a poor record at the major, as only three previous players have been able to successfully defend their titles.

McIlroy is undeniably one of the leading contenders once again, as he bids to end his nine-year wait for a fifth major success. The Northern Irishman is yet to win the coveted Green Jacket, but he has finished in the top ten on six previous occasions. However, he will need a better start after failing to shoot at least par in four previous appearances.
Jon Rahm’s run of four straight finishes in the top ten at the Masters ended last year, but his form throughout 2023 ranks highly among the leading contenders. Jordan Spieth may be a dark horse at the prices. He won the major in 2015, and finished second on two occasions.
The Masters 2023 Predictions
We will throw a few bets at The Masters this year. Justin Thomas is a play I like at his biggest opening price for the major. He has finished in the top 22 on each of his previous six appearances, including a tie for eighth last year.
Cameron Smith is the undeniable LIV-angle, as the once-loved player could play a massive role after claiming victory in The Open last year, and finishing third at The Masters 2022. At a price, I would also be keen to take a chance on Justin Rose, as he has finished in the top ten on five occasions at Augusta.
