Event Preview
Few events captivate the sporting world more than The Masters, with the final round on Sunday typically a key date in the diary for fans of all sports. This year’s Masters field will be competing over 7,555 yards at Augusta National, with all players involved dreaming of putting on the prestigious Green Jacket.
Rory McIlroy achieved that feat for the first time in 2025, completing the Career Grand Slam. However, as explained in our Masters Trends article, reigning champions have a poor record when defending the title. Recent form is also a key, meaning that pre-tournament favorite Scottie Scheffler could be vulnerable after failing to finish in the top-ten since the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Given that The Masters rewards recent form, Robert MacIntyre and J.J. Spaun should be considered major contenders. The former excelled at the recent Texas Open, before finishing T2. However, the fact that the 29-year-old missed the cut 12 months ago and is yet to finish in the top ten at The Masters shouldn’t be overlooked.
Xander Schauffele is a player that stacks up well when compared to the trends. The American has made the cut in seven of his eight Masters appearances, and was T8 12 months ago. His record of finishing in the top ten at majors ensures he will be a value selection for many this weekend.
Jon Rahm will be considered a leading chance by many this weekend. The Spanish star has made the cut on all nine appearances at Augusta, winning the major in 2023. Finished outside of the top ten last year, but that is a major green flag when assessing contenders 12 months later.
Ludvig Aberg has always threatened to land a major, but the Swede’s tendency to throw away tournaments on a Sunday is a major worry. Aberg remains a leading chance based on his Masters prowess, finishing second two years ago and inside the top ten in 2025.
The Masters Picks
While concerns surround his fitness, Collin Morikawa revealed last weekend’s absence in Texas was precautionary. Therefore, he is a leading chance, based on both trends and previous Masters showings. The American has previously won The Open, and has made the cut on all six starts at Augusta, achieving a career best T3 in 2024.
His form this season has been red-hot, ending his wait for a win at Pebble Beach, and taking his ball-striking ability to a new level. If healthy, he is of serious interest at +4000.
