Event Preview

Many of the world’s best players will be hoping to return to form this weekend when the PGA Tour action moves to Connecticut for the Travelers Championship. This event was first staged in 1952, and it is competed at TPC at River Highlands. It is one of the signature events aside from the majors on the tour, with a purse of $20 million up for grabs.

The field will compete over a distance of 6,844 yards at the par-70 event, with Keegan Bradley and Tim Norris holding the aggregate and par records, respectively. Billy Casper is the most successful player in the history of the Travelers Championship, winning on four previous occasions.

Due to the purse on offer this weekend, it will be the first non-major this calendar year where the top two ranked players will both be in action. Scottie Scheffler’s ultra-consistent campaign was damaged at the U.S. Open last time out, but the American comes to River Highlands as the reigning champion.

Rory McIlroy will also be on the comeback trail ahead of The Open Championship next month. The Masters champion struggled to make the cut at the U.S. Open, but he made very little impression on the players at the top of the leaderboard. Xander Schauffele could be a key player of note this weekend. His consistency on the Tour this season has been excellent, and he was a winner of the Travelers Championship in 2022.

Travelers Championship Picks

Many players have questions to answer this weekend after poor showings at the U.S. Open. Therefore, it could be worth taking a swing against the market leader. Tommy Fleetwood makes the most appeal. The Englishman has finished in the top ten on four occasions in 2025, and has made the cut on all appearances this calendar year.
