Race Preview
It could be argued that there are few more informative races on the road to the Breeders’ Cup than the Cotillion Stakes. The race will give a final look at some of the top three-year-old fillies ahead of the Distaff in November. Thorpedo Anna was the latest to complete the lucrative double for Kenneth McPeek in 2024.
Scottie Lassie will head the betting this weekend after a simply sensational 15-length success in the G1 Coaching Club American Oaks in July. Immersive had no answer for the dominant success, but it is unlikely that she will enjoy the dream trip for the second race running at this level.

Good Cheer shouldn’t be overlooked on Saturday, despite failing to back up her Kentucky Oaks success in her last two runs. She at least showed signs of being back to her very best when second behind Nitrogen in the G1 Alabama Stakes last time. This distance would raise questions.
Indy Bay could be the unexposed horse in this field after clocking up wins in four of her last five starts. She has plenty to find on official ratings, but the speedy three-year-old showed plenty of class in the G2 Charles Town Oaks last month to beat Vodka With A Twist.
Cotillion Stakes Picks
I’m a big fan of the Mark Casse-trained La Cara this weekend. It’s best to put a line through her effort in the Alabama Stakes, as she never looked comfortable. But, she has proven form at the highest level before then, including wins in the G1 Acorn and G1 Ashland. High class when at her very best, and certainly the value in the betting.
