Race Preview

High-quality racing action is set for the Middle East this weekend, as Meydan hosts the lucrative G1 Dubai World Cup. A competitive undercard also features action on the Road to the Kentucky Derby 2026, with the UAE Derby offering 100 qualifying points.

However, the feature on Saturday will be headlined by the Breeders’ Cup Classic winner, Forever Young. The highest-rated dirt horse in the world has already showcased his talent this year, easily beating Bob Baffert-trained Nysos in the G1 Saudi Cup. The Real Steel colt is a previous course and distance winner, but he was beaten in the Dubai World Cup at a short price last year.

Hit Show was the shock winner of the race 12 months ago, finishing just under a length clear of Mixto. The Brad Cox runner has a run under his belt after landing the G3 Mineshaft Stakes at Fair Grounds, meaning that he will be fit to give his running on Saturday.

But, Magnitude may be the most interesting American raider. The four-year-old for Steven Asmussen has improved with every run, beating Hit Show in the G2 Clark Stakes at the end of last season, before returning to action with a three-length success in the G3 Razorback.

Simon & Ed Crisford-trained Meydaan ensures that this weekend’s race is an international affair. The British raider is a two-time winner at the track this winter, most recently landing the G2 Al Maktoum Classic over course and distance by five lengths from Walk Of Stars.

Dubai World Cup Picks

If at his best, Forever Young is far too good for this field, and should win with plenty in hand. Meydaan and last year’s UAE Derby second, Heart of Honor, could both out-run their odds.
