Race Preview
The Blue Grass Stakes is one of the final major prep races before the opening leg of the Triple Crown this year. This race has been staged annually since 1911, and it has been a Grade 1 contest since being upgraded in 2022. The field of horses aged three will compete over 1 1/8 miles, with a purse of $1 million available.
It hasnโt been the most successful race in terms of producing Derby winners, but Tapit Trice, Essential Quality, and Art Collector have all landed victories across the previous four editions before landing significant Grade One honors. But, there will be a fascinating battle for favouritism in the betting this weekend.

Sierra Leone currently heads the betting for trainer Chad Brown. This three-year-old was excellent on his previous start when landing the G2 Risen Star Stakes. However, he does have form to find on Dornoch, who outstayed Sierra Leone when landing the G2 Remsen Stakes last December. That form reads strong, and his recent victory in the G2 Fountain of Youth suggests that there could be more to come.
Be You is an interesting contender for the team of Irad Ortiz and Todd Pletcher this weekend. He has plenty of racecourse experience, but it would be a slight concern that he was won just once from six starts. Brad Coxโs Just a Touch also looks like an interesting rival after performing well when second on stakes debut in the G3 Gotham Stakes in March.
Blue Grass Stakes Prediction
This will be a huge race in the Kentucky Derby betting market. However, we are very keen on Dornoch to confirm the form with Sierra Leone, with Be You a likely contender in exotics.
