Race Preview

Fascinating Grade 1 action is staged at Del Mar this weekend, as the Pacific Classic takes center stage. This race offers a place in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, and a total distance of 1 1/4 miles will be covered. It will offer us a first look at this year’s crop of three-year-olds in open-age company.

Geaux Rocket Ride is a standout contender for Richard Mandella this weekend, as the three-year-old looks for a third straight win on track. He was excellent in the G1 Haskell on his latest outing, scoring a speed rating of 104. This progressive runner is still improving, and appears to have an excellent chance this weekend.

The Belmont Stakes winner was a shock victor of the Triple Crown race at Belmont Park, and it will be fascinating to see whether he can back-up that effort this weekend. The Jena Antonucci runner is a two-time stakes winner, and is likely the horse with the least to prove over the Travers distance

Arabian Knight was back in third in the Haskell in July, but his finish was a hugely impressive display after a long layoff from the track. A bolder showing is likely this weekend, and it could be challenging to overlook the Bob Baffert runner now at the peak of his fitness.

Experience could count for a lot this weekend, which means Senor Buscador and Stileto Boy also enter calculations. The former makes greater appeal this weekend, as he scored a sensational win at Del Mar on his latest start to land the G2 San Diego Handicap with a speed rating of 115.

Pacific Classic Prediction

This is a really interesting race this weekend. The narrow preference is for Arabian Knight, who should be on course to land a big win after making his comeback in July. Geaux Rocket Ride, Stileto Boy, and Senor Buscador complete of Exacta Box.
