Race Preview
One of the most informative races on the Woodbine card this Saturday comes in the form of the G1 Summer Stakes. A first look at the juvenile horses that could compete at the Breeders’ Cup will be on offer, with the race being staged over a distance of a mile on the turf.
Charlie Appleby holds leading claims in all three Grade Ones on Saturday, and he runs Wild Desert in the Summer Stakes. The two-year-old has won once from three career starts, and appeared to be screaming out for a step up to a mile when last seen finishing third over seven furlongs at Newmarket in the G2 Superlative Stakes.

However, there are a number of unexposed horses in the field this weekend, including unbeaten contenders such as Military Time, Marcus J, and Two Out Hero. The latter of those could be worth considering after impressing over an extended six furlongs at Woodbine last month when beating the reappearing Casson.
Timeframe is also a runner of note for Mark Casse, with John Velazquez booked to take the ride on the two-year-old. The colt was a straightforward winner at Woodbine over seven furlongs a couple of weeks ago, and looks tailor-made for this step up to a mile.
Summer Stakes Picks
I like the chances of an international raider that could go under the radar this weekend. Thesecretadversary will have Frankie Dettori aboard on Saturday, and has looked at home in high-class company throughout the season, finishing in the first two on all four starts. A mile should suit based on his recent success in the Churchill Stakes in Ireland, beating the talented Aidan O’Brien-trained Brussels.
