Race Preview
Breeders’ Cup clues will be on offer at Santa Anita on Sunday, as the winner of the G2 Zenyatta Stakes will secure this spot in the Distaff. The field will cover a distance of 1 1/16 miles this weekend, with fillies and mares aged three and older lining up in California.
Bob Baffert holds a very strong hand in the race this weekend, with stablemates Richi and Cavalieri set to battle for favoritism. The latter holds the form advantage over her stablemate after beating Richi by just under a length in the G1 Beholder Mile in March. The extra distance this weekend could be an important factor to consider, as Richi could be better suited to this kind of test.

Richi has already won over an extended mile this season at Santa Anita after landing the G2 Santa Maria Stakes in impressive fashion. However, she was well-beaten on her latest effort when only third in the G1 Clement Hirsch Stakes.
La Kika could be the unknown quantity in this field on her first start at the Doug O’Neill yard. She has been a strong performer overseas throughout the season, most recently landing the G1 Clasico Pamplona. It will be fascinating to see how that level of form transfers.
Zenyatta Stakes Picks
A fascinating race this weekend, but Cavalieri appears to be the most logical play. The Baffert runner will carry less weight than her stablemate, and has already got the better of Richi after landing a victory over a mile at Santa Anita earlier this season.
