Fight Preview
The Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Rountree Jr. fight is the main event of UFC 307, in which the two fight for the 205lb championship belt. Our prediction is that this is going to be a stand-up striking duel. In fact, we’re almost 100% certain of this.
The reason is that both prefer fighting standing up, the evidence being that Rountree has never shot a single takedown, while Pereira has one TD in his UFC portfolio.
Both are excellent strikers with a background in kickboxing. Pereira is a former Glory Kickboxing champ who’s got an 81.81% knockout rate since switching to MMA. Meanwhile, Rountree is a Muay Thai expert, who won 9 of his 19 MMA fights by KO/TKO. One of those wins happened against another former Glory champ, Gokhan Saki.

These are the reasons why he was given a title shot, which is going to be the biggest fight of his career. He’s fast and powerful, but his tendency to absorb more strikes than he lands could be a problem against Pereira.
Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Rountree Jr. Prediction
Our prediction is that this is going to be Alex Pereira’s hardest title defense so far. Khalil Rountree is a much better striker than any of Pereira’s previous opponents in the Light Heavyweight Division. We do think this guy stands a chance on October 5, although we do understand why Pereira is such a huge favorite.
This is why our top pick for the UFC 307 headliner is that the fight will finish by knockout, technical knockout, or disqualification.
