Preview
Fresno State had their 2nd consecutive 10-win finish in 2022. Over the past 6 seasons, the Bulldogs have reached the 10-win mark four times, winning a bowl game in all four seasons. They’ve made a good case to larger conferences as a team to poach in realignment, and can further their case with another solid season this year. The Bulldogs should be a tough out once again in head coach Jeff Tedford’s 7th season.
Purdue emerged at the top of a weak Big-10 West division, earning a spot in the Big-10 title game at 8-4. Unfortunately, the Boilermakers went on to lose that game to Michigan 43-22, and then the Citrus Bowl against LSU by a score of 63-7. Purdue will aim to put that rough end to their season behind them, with high hopes to return to the Big-10 title game in 2023. They’ll have a new QB under center for this season.
Prediction
This should be a very competitive and exciting game. Both of these teams project pretty similarly, with Purdue having a slight analytical edge. They also have home field advantage in this game, but still can’t overlook a dangerous Fresno State team. Both these teams will be fielding new QBs in 2023, which makes this game even more unpredictable. Ultimately, I like the Bulldogs chances of pulling off the road upset.
