Event Preview

The Edmonton Oilers would have felt confident of repeating their success against the Dallas Stars in the conference finals in 2025 after progressing to the Stanley Cup Finals with a victory over the same rivals at this stage last season. However, this is a very different Stars side in 2025, and they showcased that in the first meeting between the teams on Wednesday.

In truth, the opening two periods were dominated by the Oilers, as they scored three times to shock the home support into silence. However, the final period of game one was a mesmeric showing by the hosts, and indicated that they have the fighting qualities to go all the way in the playoffs this season.

The Stars scored a remarkable five goals in the final period to turn the context of the opening game on its head, leaving the Oilers shell-shocked from what had happened. But, a response in game two is impossible to rule out.

Connor McDavid ended game one with two assists, which was the same tally as Leon Draisaitl, who also found himself on the scoresheet. The other goals in the defeat for the Oilers were scored by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Evan Bouchard.

Tyler Seguin was the star of the show for the Stars, scoring twice and registering one assist to end the night with three points. Mikael Granlund also scored and made an assists, as did Miro Heiskanen. Matt Duchene and Esa Lindell also ended the night with goals.

Stars vs. Oilers Game 2 Picks

Game Two will be crucial for the Stars, as they aim to take a healthy advantage to Edmonton for the third clash in the series. Based on their attacking output in game one, we could foresee them achieving that target on Friday.
