Event Preview

The unpredictability of the NHL playoffs was on full display once again this week, as history was made in Florida. However, for the Panthers, it was a slice of unwanted records that they made.

Everything appeared to be going to plan for the Panthers after racing into a stunning 3-0 advantage after the opening period. However, the game would be flipped on its head in the following two frames, with the Oilers scoring three unanswered goals in the second period, before taking the lead in the final period.

But, the Panthers did respond from their capitulation, forcing overtime. Regardless, there would be no stopping the Oilers on Thursday with Leon Draisaitl scoring the important winner in overtime to level the Stanley Cup Finals.

The performance shows that the Oilers are far from out of contention when it comes to the race for Stanley Cup glory this season. Notably, it was the first time since 1919 that a team playing on the road in the finals has won a game despite trailing by three goals.

For the Panthers, Matthew Tkachuk was in excellent form, as he scored twice. Their other efforts in the 5-4 defeat were registered by Sam Reinhart and Anton Lundell. Meanwhile, five different players scored for the Oilers in Florida, including Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Darnell Nurse, and Jake Walman.

Oilers vs. Panthers Game 5 Picks

It is incredibly difficult to predict where this mesmeric Stanley Cup Finals series will go next. The Panthers appeared in complete control to set a date to win the honor after the opening period, but the Oilers showed their never-say-die attitude. We could see Edmonton building on their performance back in front of their own fans on Saturday.
