Match Preview
Both Man City and Sporting Lisbon have made impressive starts to the Champions League this season. Both sides come into matchday four after winning two of their opening three matches, with City sitting third after scoring nine unanswered goals.
Sporting landed a famous win over City in the first meeting between the sides in the Europa League in March 2012. However, the Portuguese side are now winless in the last three. Over that period, City have recorded two wins.
The reigning Premier League champions have suffered just a single defeat in their last ten major matches against teams from Portugal. Across the ten previous matches, City have managed to keep six clean sheets, which includes shut outs in each of the last three.

City have also enjoyed their trips to Portugal after losing on just one of their five visits. They are also unbeaten in three Champions League trips to the country, landing a 5-0 win over Sporting back in February 2022.
However, Sporting have avoided defeat in their last three matches against English teams in the Champions League. In fact, they landed a 2-0 win over Tottenham on the most recent occasion that they welcomed a Premier League side.
Sporting have enjoyed an excellent start to the competition this season after going unbeaten across their opening three matches. They could match their longest ever run of four matches without defeat on Tuesday.
Sporting Lisbon vs. Man City Picks
City’s injury issues are already mounting at this stage of the season, and they could be hard to ignore before making a prediction on Tuesday. For that reason, the preference is for the points to be shared in Lisbon.
