Match Preview
Canada appear to be in a strong place ahead of their home World Cup next summer, and they could yet head into the competition with winning form behind them if they are able to claim success at this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The nation has won two of their three matches at the Gold Cup this year, which includes a solid 2-0 success against El Salvador on Tuesday evening. Playing against nine men, Canada cruised to a win following efforts from Jonathan David and Tajon Buchanan.

Guatemala could present Canada with a serious challenge on Sunday, as they have already won two of their three matches at the Gold Cup. They have defended excellently to this point, allowing just one goal following matches against Jamaica, Panama, and Guadeloupe.
Their latest win came against the latter, with Rubio Ruben netting the crucial winner in the final 20 minutes. Their attacking threat ensures that they could be capable of upsetting the odds, but they will need to defend more reliably against a more talented opposition.
Head-to-Head Record
Canada has an excellent record against Guatemala, winning four of the last five internationals between the nations. However, the latest meeting between the teams ended in a 0-0 draw in the 2023 edition of the Gold Cup.
Canada vs. Guatemala Picks
This should be a very competitive fixture between two of the most eye-catching nations in the early rounds of the Gold Cup. Canada still appear to have the better chance of claiming victory, as their attacking threat is hard to dismiss against a leaky defensive side in the form of Guatemala.
