Match Preview
Javier Aguirre’s Mexico will be aiming to secure their progression through to the next round of the Gold Cup as Group A winners on Sunday in Las Vegas. The defending champions have been in strong form at the competition once again this summer, winning each of their two fixtures and scoring five goals.
Mexico’s winning sequence was extended on matchday two, as they dominated Suriname to record a 2-0 victory. Cesar Montes was the match-winning hero for the reigning champions, netting both of the goals. However, it may be a slight concern that they were short of quality in the final third, scoring just twice from 16 attempts.

Costa Rica have been one of the most entertaining teams to watch at the Gold Cup this summer, with their two matches seeing a total of ten goals scored. After winning 4-3 against Suriname on matchday one, Costa Rica landed a 2-1 victory on Wednesday.
It was a nervy finish to the contest, but Josimir Alcocer scored the crucial winner with just four minutes remaining. The victory secured their spot in the knockout round, and a third straight victory will see them achieve a top-spot finish ahead of Mexico.
Head-to-Head Record
Mexico have avoided defeat in their last six internationals against Costa Rica. The latest meeting between the nations came back in July 2023, with Mexico recording a 2-0 home win in the CONCACAF Nations League.
Mexico vs. Costa Rica Picks
This should be a good test for the dominant teams in Group A. However, Mexico has the better quality across the field, and their dominant head-to-head advantage against their rivals ensures that they are the standout selection on Sunday.
