Match Preview

The defending Gold Cup champions are on their way to another knockout stage appearance in the competition, but they could face an intriguing challenge in their goal to secure a spot in the final four.

Mexico have been excellent throughout the competition to this stage, winning two of their three group stage matches, before resting their star players for the final matchday showdown against Costa Rica on Sunday.

Saudi Arabia have been a welcome addition to the Gold Cup this summer, and they could yet upset the odds to reach the semi-final stage. The Asian nation passed through the opening round of the competition after winning once and picking up a draw against Trinidad and Tobago.

However, they have already come up short against the very best nations in the tournament after losing 1-0 against the United States. Therefore, they could find life challenging against Mexico based on their showing against the U.S. But, their tournament know-how has been visible in recent history, beating Argentina at the 2022 World Cup.

Head-to-Head Record

Mexico have a near perfect record against Saudi Arabia, winning five of the last six head-to-head matches. That includes a 2-1 success at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Saudi Arabia’s best previous result against Mexico was a 0-0 draw in 1998.

Mexico vs. Saudi Arabia Picks

Mexico’s ability to get through to the knockout rounds in the CONCACAF Gold Cup deserves huge respect, and they look good value to reach at least the final once again in 2025. Therefore, it appears hard to overlook the prospect of Mexico beating Saudi Arabia in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
