Match Preview

It has been a slow start to life in national team management for Mauricio Pochettino, but there are signs that improvement could be on the horizon. The USA have won all three of their group stage games at the CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer, which includes a hard-fought success against Haiti in their final group stage encounter.

Patrick Agyemang netted the winning goal in the victory in the final 15 minutes. Once again, the USA will be expected to rise to the occasion in front of their own fans.

Costa Rica should be capable of throwing down an interesting challenge to the USA on Sunday. The nation have remained unbeaten in their opening three group stage matches, which includes a recent 0-0 draw against Mexico.

That defensive structure will be tested more strenuously against the United States. But, Costa Rica should have attacking quality to throw down a challenge, scoring six goals in their opening three matches.

Head-to-Head Record

The USA have won five of their last six internationals against Costa Rica, which includes a 3-0 friendly success earlier this year. However, the latest competitive meeting between the nations came back in 2022, as America were shockingly beaten 2-0.

USA vs. Costa Rica Picks

Things have improved for the United States during this summer’s Gold Cup, and that bodes well for their chances of winning their home tournament this summer. The USA are therefore the most logical play to ensure their progression through to the final four on Sunday evening.
