Match Preview
With just under 12 months to go before the USA welcome the best teams on the planet for the 2026 World Cup, there are major issues that need addressing. Many would have felt that the teething problems were over after Nations League misery earlier this calendar year, but things have appeared to get worse during their warm-up matches for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
A sign of the problems that Pochettino is facing was evident on Tuesday evening, as the USA conceded four inside the opening 40 minutes of a friendly against Switzerland. There was nothing to take from the game for the U.S., as they failed to register a single shot on target.

Of course, it was only a friendly defeat, but the warning signs for a heavy defeat have been visible for much of this calendar year. Humbling defeats against Panama and Canada were suffered in the Nations League in March, while the U.S. were also beaten fairly easily against Turkey at the start of June.
The USA’s recent results will offer Trinidad and Tobago hope ahead of this Gold Cup opener. But, the Caribbean nation hardly arrive into this tournament in much better form than their rivals. Dwight Yorke’s side have suffered defeats in three of their last four internationals, which includes a 2-1 defeat against Costa Rica in their latest qualifier.
Head-to-Head Record
The USA boasts an impressive head-to-head record against Trinidad and Tobago, winning 12 of the last 16 meetings between the nations. However, it is worth remembering that the USA were beaten 2-1 by their opponents at the end of 2023 in the Nations League.
USA vs. Trinidad and Tobago Picks
You’d have to be very brave to take the USA at such a short price this weekend based on their poor performances this calendar year. There is no connection throughout their team, and that is a major concern. Therefore, the safer play could be Trinidad and Tobago on the spread.
