Match Preview
There will be huge confidence around the Liverpool camp coming into this midweek tie in the FA Cup after a youthful Reds side claimed a dramatic 1-0 win in the EFL Cup final against Chelsea. However, Jurgen Klopp will still be without a number of first-team stars for this showdown against Southampton on Wednesday.
It has been a reliable season to this point for the Saints, but they have lost ground on the automatic promotion spots in the Championship after losing three of their last four. That includes defeats in each of their last two matches in the second tier.

Liverpool have picked up victories in their last four FA Cup ties against the Saints, with their most recent success coming in 1989-90. Meanwhile, the Saints have lost their last six away matches against the Reds across all competitions, and are winless in their last seven since a 1-0 success in the EFL Cup in 2016-17.
Southampton have reached the quarterfinal stage on three of their last four appearances, which includes a run to the last eight in two of the last three seasons. Meanwhile, Liverpool have only reached the last eight on one occasion under Jurgen Klopp, achieving that on their way to winning the competition in 2021-22.
Liverpool vs Southampton Prediction
This could be a good time to face Liverpool after the Reds were taken all the way to extra time on Sunday. It may be a nervy fixture for the home side, but we could see them having far too much quality in the final third for their Championship rivals.
