Event Preview
The 2025 Leagues Cup will once again be one of the most exciting soccer events on the North American calendar in late summer, as teams from Mexico and the MLS lock horns. A revamped version of the competition will see all teams from Liga MX involved, while North America will be represented by the top 18 teams from the MLS.
The opening phase of the competition will see teams play three matches, with the top four from each of the respective groups progressing through to the knockout round.

Inter Miami will once again be among the leading contenders after winning the competition in 2023. Lionel Messi will be at the forefront of their challenge, while the addition of Rodrigo De Paul adds some battle into the engine room. However, they will need to improve defensively based on their MLS performances in 2025.
The Columbus Crew also deserves huge respect after winning the competition last year. However, their recent performances have been underwhelming domestically, which includes a 3-0 loss at the hands of Nashville on July 16.
Based on the odds, Mexican hopes will rest on Club America. They have made a reliable start to Liga MX after winning one of their opening two matches, and confidence could be built ahead of the start of the Leagues Cup if they can overcome Toluca in the Campeon de Campeones.
Leagues Cup 2025 Pick
At the prices, Monterrey could be an interesting selection this summer. The Mexican side performed very well at the recent Club World Cup, and they have excellent tournament experience across the field.
Their run of matches to reach the knockout round is also easier than most, with clashes against FC Cincinnati, New York Red Bulls, and Charlotte FC scheduled.
