Game Preview

A place in the second round of the MLS Playoffs will be up for grabs this weekend, as Charlotte FC and New York City collide. Just three points separated the sides in the regular season standings, with Charlotte recording wins in two more fixtures.

NYC took control of the series in the opening encounter at the Bank of America Stadium, landing a 1-0 success on Oct 27. However, that advantage was wiped away in Game Two following a dramatic penalty shootout.

It could be argued that NYC only had themselves to blame in that eventual defeat, as they dominated the ball throughout the fixture and created the better opportunities. Despite that, Charlotte stole the win, and will now have home-field advantage for the playoff-deciding clash.

That could be a crucial factor on Friday, as Charlotte have won 72% of their home matches in the MLS in 2025.  They have averaged 1.83 goals per game, and have kept clean sheets in half of their fixtures in North Carolina.

Charlotte vs. New York City Picks

Game Two is likely to be the clash that NYC will look back on after this Friday’s clash, as they failed to make their dominance count. Charlotte have been excellent in home matches throughout the season, and that makes them among the logical picks this weekend.
